About Aryo

Aryo – Alireza Ferdowsi – is a Berlin-based artist working between drawing, painting and photography. He is always chasing emotions and moments, right as they unfold. Spontaneity, intimacy and movement run through everything he makes. He paints straight from observation: on the street, out in the landscape, at events and in front of the live model. Working in watercolour and oil, soft pastel and oil pastel, he builds the composition directly on the surface, improvising from a quick first sketch.

Bodies of work

AryoSketch spans portraits, urban sketching and plein-air painting: people, cityscapes, architecture and landscapes, all painted on location. AryoKunstwelt is devoted to the human body. Rather than static, academic poses, Aryo is drawn to the energy of live performance, and he sketches at life drawing sessions several times a week. In shibari and performance settings, rope, touch and negative space become part of the composition. The aim is not anatomical precision but gesture, weight, tension and closeness.

In AFFoto he shares his photographic impressions, captured on film or digitally.

Live drawing, workshops and collaborations

Aryo draws live at events, capturing spontaneous moments as they happen. Every year he takes part in several international painting, plein-air and watercolour festivals, and he regularly collaborates with fellow artists and performers. He runs life drawing sessions and sketchwalks and teaches drawing and watercolour workshops, such as “Expressive Shibari Life Drawing with Watercolors”. In his workshops he demonstrates his process live, from first sketch to finished watercolour, and gives every participant personal feedback.
